Northwest Institute for Community Energy

History of the Campaign:

The Northwest Institute for Community Energy (NICE) was created by some CCNers to help communities develop and implement community-based sustainable energy projects. The NICE seeks to combine hands-on community organizing learning experiences for youth in the Pacific Northwest with on the ground support for energy projects that transform our neighborhoods into a more sustainable way of functioning.

During the summer of 2008 the NICE worked on a test pilot project in Southeast Portland called SunNE (http://sunnysideneighborhoodenergy.wikispaces.com/Welcome) and experienced amazing success. We hope to replicate this type of effort every summer and eventually develop into a full blown community organizers institute that continues to catalyze and support sustainable energy projects in the Northwest.
