Corporate Accountability
Mission Statement:
"Corporate Accountability" as defined in an NGO-statement submitted to the United Nations in 1997 refers to "the legal obligation of a company to do the right thing. The aim of corporate accountability is to be sure a company's products and operations are in the interests of society and not harmful." Corporate accountability is especially relevant to the current situation of increasing economic globalization. Transnational Corporations (TNCs) are the main protagonists and beneficiaries of globalization but their activities often have detrimental environmental and social impacts. Therefore, there is a need of national and international instruments to ensure that the activities of TNCs are consistent with the goals of sustainable development.
The Corporate Climate Commitment
If you've been looking for a way to connect with local businesses/ corporations, and work cooperatively to support their Green rhetoric and ambitions... THIS IS IT!
The CCN's Corporate Climate Commitment invites local businesses to work with the CCN to find sustainable alternatives to many of their current environment and energy management systems. Similar to the ACUPCC, it challenges these institutions to make a plan and hold to it.
Bust a CAP
I am in Corvallis and I write a climate piece for an independent weekly magazine here. This is the last one that I did and thought that it was relevant for this group as well. I welcome any comments.
